JOB DESCRIPTION
Custodian/Groundskeeper
Directly Responsible To: Building Principal
The custodian shall work cooperatively with the building principal/district groundskeeper lead to ensure an efficient and orderly cleaning and groundskeeping program.
GENERAL DUTIES
The custodian shall be responsible for the cleanliness and up keep of the assigned areas at his or her site. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
DAILY TASKS
- Placing school zone signs each morning before 7 AM and pulling them in by 4 PM during the school year.
- Cleaning of chalk boards and trays.
- Vacuum carpets.
- Dust mop and damp mop as needed – tile and hardwood floors.
- General dusting – teacher’s desks, cabinets, window sills.
- Empty all waste baskets.
- Close and lock windows.
- Turn off lights and lock doors.
DAILY TASKS – RESTROOMS:
- Cleans and disinfect wash basins, toilet bowls and stalls.
- Clean mirror, soap and towel dispensers.
- Keep ample supply of paper towels, toilet paper and soap in dispensers.
- Empty waste baskets.
- Wet mop floors.
PERIODIC TASKS and Grounds
- Strip, seal and wash tile and hardwood floors.
- Buff floors.
- Carpet spotting and cleaning.
- Window washing.
- Venetian blind cleaning.
- Wall wash and painting.
- Snow removal and ice management.
- Mowing and watering lawns.
- Irrigating. ( 3-5 times a year )
- Additional Groundskeeping tasks as they arise.
- Empty all exterior building waste receptacles.
- Custodians shall be able to operate floor machines.
- Attend all training sessions called by Supervisor or Maintenance Supervisor.
- Custodians shall perform any duties assigned by Supervisors or Maintenance Supervisor.
MAINTENANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Any painting as directed by Supervisor.
- Door lock maintenance/repairs.
- Replace light bulbs/ballasts.
- Minor maintenance tasks or other tasks as directed.
Must have a valid IVP Fingerprint Card.
